Composition of House of Representatives
The House of Representatives shall consist of 275 members: 165 elected via first-past-the-post from 165 single constituencies, and 110 elected proportionally from closed party lists ensuring women at least 33%, Dalit at least 4.5%.
275 MPs: 165 are directly elected (you vote for a specific person - whoever gets most votes in that constituency wins: e.g. Balen Shah won Jhapa-5 with 68,348 votes, Rabi Lamichhane won Chitwan-2). 110 are from party lists ensuring women and minorities are represented (RSP won ~58 of these PR seats).
१६५ प्रत्यक्ष निर्वाचित + ११० समानुपातिक = २७५ जम्मा सांसद। महिला कम्तीमा ३३%, दलित कम्तीमा ४.५% अनिवार्य।
Mixed system ensures both geographic and proportional representation.
PR list MPs chosen by party bosses - voters have no say in who makes the list.
