Royal Properties

राजकीय सम्पत्ति
💡Highlight any phrase below and we'll explain what it means.
Original Text

All properties of the former royal family that are state properties shall be nationalized. The Government shall manage former royal palaces, land, and assets.

💡 Plain Language Explanation

When Nepal became a republic in 2008, the king\'s properties became the nation\'s. This article formalizes that: royal palaces (like Narayanhiti, now a museum), royal forests, crown land — all nationalized. The former royal family retains only personal (non-state) property. This is a permanent break from monarchy.

Good Aspects

Clean constitutional break from monarchy — national assets belong to the nation.

⚠️ Concerns

Disputes over which properties are \'state\' vs \'personal\' have not been fully resolved.
