Local Executive Formation
The local executive consists of the Mayor/Chairperson, Deputy Mayor/Vice-Chairperson, and Ward Chairpersons. All are directly elected.
Local governments have a built-in team: Mayor + Deputy Mayor (or Chairperson + Vice-Chair), plus all Ward Chairpersons. Everyone is directly elected — no party appointments. The constitution requires the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to be of different genders, ensuring women\'s leadership at the local level. With 753 local units, Nepal has over 35,000 elected local representatives.
