Supplementary Estimates
If the amount authorized by the Appropriation Act is insufficient or a need arises for expenditure not provided for, the Finance Minister may present a supplementary estimate to Parliament.
Sometimes the original budget isn\'t enough — an earthquake hits, fuel prices spike, or a new program is needed mid-year. This article lets the Finance Minister go back to Parliament for additional funding. But it\'s not a blank cheque — Parliament must approve each supplementary request just like the original budget.
