Definitions

परिभाषा
💡Highlight any phrase below and we'll explain what it means.
Original Text

In this Constitution: "indigent" means having property and income below a threshold; "labourer" means one who does physical or mental work for remuneration; "dalit" means historically oppressed communities; etc.

💡 Plain Language Explanation

Legal definitions matter enormously. For example, defining "indigent" (poor) determines who gets free healthcare. Defining "Dalit" determines who gets Dalit quotas. These definitions are used by courts when interpreting constitutional rights - any ambiguity is resolved by these definitions.

🇳🇵 नेपाली व्याख्या

संविधानमा प्रयुक्त शब्दहरूको कानुनी परिभाषा - "निःसहाय", "ज्यालादारी श्रमिक", "दलित" आदि।

Good Aspects

Clear definitions prevent arbitrary interpretation of rights.

⚠️ Concerns

Some definitions are still contested (e.g., who counts as "Dalit" or "indigenous").
