Local Assembly Privileges
Members of local assemblies enjoy freedom of speech in assembly proceedings. No member shall be arrested or prosecuted for anything said during assembly proceedings.
The same parliamentary privilege that protects federal MPs extends to your local ward representatives. They can speak freely in assembly meetings without fear of being sued or arrested for what they say. This matters because local politics is personal — your ward representative needs to be able to criticize the mayor without fear of retaliation.
स्थानीय सभा सदस्यले सभामा भनेका कुराका लागि गिरफ्तार वा मुद्दा हुन सक्दैन — अभिव्यक्ति स्वतन्त्रता।
Enables fearless local debate — ward representatives can hold the mayor accountable.
Privilege can be misused for personal attacks or defamatory statements in heated local politics.
