Local Executive Power
Executive power of the local level shall be vested in the Village Executive or Municipal Executive. Local governments exercise powers on matters listed in Schedule 8 (Local Powers) and Schedule 9 (Concurrent Powers).
Nepal\'s 753 local governments — 6 metropolitan cities, 11 sub-metropolitan cities, 276 municipalities, and 460 rural municipalities — each have their own executive. Their constitutional turf: local roads, basic health, primary education, birth/death/marriage registration, local police, waste management, and everything on the Local Powers list (Schedule 8).
