Appointment of Attorney General

महान्यायाधिवक्ता नियुक्ति
💡Highlight any phrase below and we'll explain what it means.
Original Text

The President appoints the Attorney General on recommendation of the Prime Minister. The AG must have qualifications equivalent to a Supreme Court judge — 15+ years as Senior Advocate or equivalent legal experience.

💡 Plain Language Explanation

The PM picks the Attorney General and the President formally appoints them. To qualify, you need the same credentials as a Supreme Court judge — at least 15 years as a Senior Advocate. This ensures Nepal\'s top government lawyer is genuinely experienced, not just politically connected. But since the PM chooses, independence is always questioned.

Good Aspects

High qualification bar ensures legal competence at the top.

⚠️ Concerns

PM\'s recommendation power means AG appointments are inherently political.
