Appointment of Chief Justice and SC Judges
The Supreme Court has max 20 judges plus the Chief Justice. The President appoints the CJ on recommendation of the Constitutional Council, and other judges on recommendation of the Judicial Council. CJ term is 6 years.
The Supreme Court has up to 21 seats (CJ + 20 judges). The CJ is appointed via the Constitutional Council (political body), while other judges via the Judicial Council (professional body). To become CJ, you must have served as SC judge for 3+ years. CJ term: 6 years max. Judges need 7+ years as High Court judge, or 12+ years as judicial officer, or 15+ years as Senior Advocate.
