Election to the President and Vice-President shall be made to ensure representation of different sex or community.

The President and Vice-President CANNOT both be from the same gender or same community. If the President is male, the VP must be female (or vice versa), OR they must be from different ethnic/caste communities. This has been enforced - e.g., President Ram Chandra Paudel (Brahmin) and VP Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav (Madheshi).
