Constitution as Fundamental Law

संविधान मूल कानुन
💡Highlight any phrase below and we'll explain what it means.
Original Text

This Constitution is the fundamental law of Nepal. Any law inconsistent with this Constitution shall, to the extent of such inconsistency, be void. It shall be the duty of every person to observe this Constitution.

💡 Plain Language Explanation

The Constitution is the supreme rulebook - supreme over Parliament, the PM, the President. Every other law must follow it. If any law contradicts it, that law becomes void automatically.

🇳🇵 नेपाली व्याख्या

संविधान नेपालको सर्वोच्च कानुन हो। यससँग बाझिने कुनै पनि कानुन अमान्य हुन्छ।

Good Aspects

Provides legal certainty. Citizens can challenge any unconstitutional law in Supreme Court.

⚠️ Concerns

Courts are slow and expensive - many rights violations go unchallenged by ordinary citizens.
